Fresh from upsetting an incredible match against Australia in the quarter-finals, defending champion England is looking yet to another victory in the semi-final against France on this saturday. England fans are frantically booking tickets to cheer their heroes at Saint-Denis.
England coach Brian Ashton was thought to be an overly visionary and perfectionist international coach, but all this changed after England qualified for the semi-finals. Although England started with a poor performance to their rugby world cup 2007 campaign, by narrowly beating the USA and a poor display against South Africa; they have slowly improved their performance as they played against the Pacific island Tonga and Samoa. This built up of momentum have helped England to achieve a victorious win over Australia.
However, England need to change their game plan as they can't use the same tactics as deployed against Australia. In fact, France pose a real threat at scrum time than the Wallabies. Because of France's great plan, they are able to turn the table around and defeat New Zealand even though the all blacks were leading 13-0. Even England coach Brian Ashton believed that France could very well be the champions. This will be an exciting match as it is viewed as "clashing of the titans" of the year.
Meanwhile on the France side, Coach Laporte will be bringing back Raphael Ibanez, a french hooker and captain retired from the international game. His inside knowledge will be fully utilized against opposing captain and prop Phil Vickery in Saturday's semi-final against England. Ibanez, packed down with Vickery in the front row for London Wasps when they won the 2007 Heineken Cup.
Highly respected by his team-mates, opponents and the French rugby public, Ibanez would undoubtedly become a national hero if he were to lead France to win the rugby world Cup 2007 at Stade de France on 20 October, provided there is no upset by England on this saturday match.
