If you are thinking of moving to France but are worried that you may not be able to keep in touch with your friends and family back in Blighty at the same time, listen up. It seems that the French are more up on using the latest technology when it comes to staying in contact than most Brits.
Despite the availability of cheap phone calls over the internet, people in the UK are still well behind France when it comes to actually making use of it.
Stay in touch
Speaking to the Observer, Kerry Ritz, managing director of voice over internet protocol (VoIP) company Vonage, said that 40 per cent of all telephone calls made in France use web-based technology.
"Everyone hates to be bested by the French, but they're way ahead and 40 per cent of all their telephony goes over VoIP," he said.
"It's a far more cost-effective way of delivering communications. Eventually IP telephony will replace traditional or copper-based services."
Cycling from London to Paris
One person who will certainly be hoping to keep in touch with his pals back in the UK is Norwich-based cyclist Graham Nobbs who on June 29th plans to cycle the 300 km from London to Paris.
He and a number of other cyclists will join forces to raise money for a cancer charity as well as experiencing some of
France's stunning coutryside at the same time.
The group plans to take the ferry from Newhaven to Dieppe before embarking on a gruelling 114 km trip to Beauvais. The last leg will be the final 70 km to the Eiffel Tower.
